The Law of Rhythm

Rhythm is usually noted as an arrangement of music, but rhythm can have a deeper meaning. It is not just the beat in a song but a way to understand how the world works. In the world, we see rhythm as a wave or cycle. Cycles create the highs and lows of life. These spirals of rhythm can be used to form us. Either they can build us up or take us down. Unfortunately, many people don't understand rhythm, and when they encounter hardships in their own life, they let hardship overtake them. The trick is picking how low your low is and not letting yourself be dragged to places you don't want to be in. Having control over your lows makes a bad day only as low as you shape it. When you go diving at a lake, reservoir, or pool, you want to dive into the water where you will not hit the ground. The water represents the low you shaped. The water keeps you safe from hitting the hard bottom, and, depending on where you choose to dive from, affects how close you get to the bottom.

The rhythm is alwas there, but to be patient is the goal. Rhythm is a cycle which means at some point in time, the cycle will restart istelf. The lows can't last forever because of the law of rhythm. This does not mean it will come in the same shape or form, but it will have the same motions to it, just like every winter and summer aren't the same, but they come at approximately the same time each year. So when we are in extreme lows, we can look forward to the coming high, just like we look forward to spring in the middle of winter. With this mindset, you can bear your lows more patiently.

After finding the rhythm in your life, rhythm can help you throughout your life. Rhythm can seem to change, but like in piano, life is adding more notes in between the beat. Piano and rhythm can seem hard at first. When you hear or see a piano song being played, the performer's hands seem to glide across the piano, but they took many hours to simply learn to play a complex xong. The same thing can be seen in rhythm when we see others controlling their lives and responsibilities; we can get overwhelmed with the place that we are at. First, we just need to start small so we can find the rhythm.

The Battle Raging for Our Minds

I had some amazing insights today that I wanted to quickly write. So this post is a bit hurried and not as polished as I usually like, but posting it will help me remember. And if you happen to read it, I hope you gain something from it as well. From my scripture journal: Amazing insights today! I read Alma chapter 47 and into chapter 48 today, and discovered something I had not seen before. Chapter 47 details how Amalikiah becomes king of the Lamanites. Specifically, I learned from the part about how he tricks Lehonti into giving him a position as second in command of the Lamanite armies, and then poisons Lehonti. We talk over and over about how Amalikiah lures Lehonti away from his stronghold and his fixed determination not to join with the rest of the Lamanite armies and fight the Nephites. And all those things are true. But like so many stories in the BOM, it has a counterpart. Lehonti’s fixed determination wasn’t enough. If he had such a fixed determination to not join w

So, That Didn't Go As I'd Planned...

Last October, as I taught Genius Bootcamp , I received some direction about what to do next , for which I was so grateful.  It led me to talk to the principal at my kids' school, which led to a job that has been a great blessing for our family.  It also provided me the opportunity to renew my teaching license, which in turn has opened up additional employment opportunities.  Andy and I have both felt that for us to reach our financial and family goals--that of following our church leaders' counsel and getting out of debt--that I need to get a full-time job.  Specifically, a full-time teaching job.  It is, after all, what my degree is in, and even just a few years of full time teaching will make a huge difference in our financial situation. So I applied for some teaching jobs.  With the teacher shortage I keep hearing that Utah is facing, I didn't think twice about whether or not I'd actually get a job.  That is, until I interviewed for one that I thought would be perf

What Do I Have To Be Thankful For?

I have a favorite poem: Give thanks for dirty dishes, They have a tale to tell. While other folks go hungry, We're eating very well. With health and home and happiness, We shouldn't want to fuss, But by this stack of evidence, God's very good to us. (Anonymous) I admit, my kitchen is usually filled with piles of dirty dishes, and I don't usually feel very thankful for them. Instead, I tend to wonder how six people can dirty every dish we own in a single meal. But the fact remains, they wouldn't be dirty at all if I were not fortunate enough to be eating several times every day. So, if something as bothersome as dirty dishes is really a blessing, what other blessings in life could I be missing? Are there other things that I hate in life that are, in reality, blessings? Last week a pipe broke under our sink, and water sprayed all over the kitchen. It soaked the floor, the cabinets, and even made its way to the basement. All this while I was trying to get kids
